Adding Date of
Birth to Singleview
You may
have noticed the Date of Birth pop-up in Singleview.

When this pop-up occurs, please ensure you are
attempting to collect the Date of Birth by using the below Customer FAQs, to
properly explain the benefits of adding the info. In the event the customer refuses to provide
their DOB, just update Singleview with the Opt-Out date cited in the Associate
FAQs below.
To add the DoB, Click on Main Menu and select Manage
Customer.

On the Contact Details tab, select the Date of Birth
field and enter the customer’s DoB.

If the customer refuses to provide this information,
place 1/1/1900 in the date of birth field. That will be the default date for
“opt out” customers.

ASSOCIATE FAQs:
Q. Why
are we now asking customers for their date of birth?
A.
Federal and State Regulators have become more stringent in their requirements
that creditors “know their customers”. This means that we must be more diligent
in taking steps to reduce the likelihood of fraudulent transactions, identity
theft, and inaccurate credit reporting. Given the option to require full Social
Security numbers or Dates of Birth, we felt that the DOB was less intrusive.
Most customers who connected after 1/1/2013 provided us their SSN and DOB with
their Subscriber Wise application, that information was just not populated in
Singleview when their account was set up.
Q. How
does our customer benefit from this?
A.
Having the DOB could help protect our customers from fraud or credit reporting
errors. For example, if our customer moves out of their apartment, having the
DOB could prevent the new person moving in from using their name to resume
service. If someone in the community with the same name leaves us with a bad
debt, the date of birth may prevent the debt from being placed on the wrong
person’s credit report. (For example, John Smith Jr. versus John Smith Sr.)
CUSTOMER
FAQs:
Q. Why
do you need my birthdate?
A.
Adding your DOB to your account will help to increase the security of your
account by decreasing the potential for any fraudulent activities, in the event
someone is attempting to use your information. Having your DOB on file also
serves as an extra protection measure from credit reporting errors.
Q. What
are you going to do with my information?
A. I’ll
simply enter it into the DOB section on your account where it will stay
untouched from there. However, in the event another person attempts to use your
information to fraudulently install services, we’ll be able to more readily
identify the fraudulent activity using the additional authentication info (your
DOB) that you’ve provided.
Q. I’ve
had an account with you for years, why haven’t you asked me for my birthdate
before?
A. To
this point we’ve only asked for the last 4 of your SSN to secure your account.
However, our age of advanced technology requires us to take steps to confirm
the identity of our customers that were not necessary in the past. Therefore,
adding the DOB will better help us to prevent fraud and credit reporting errors
in the event someone else is attempting to use your information, which is an
ever-growing problem.
Q. I
told the last associate that I did not want to give my birthdate - why are you
still requesting it?
A. I’m
sorry that your account was not flagged correctly but I will note your account
that you are opting out of adding this extra measure of security - this will
prevent other associates from asking again.
